2019 Mazda CX-9: Big and Bold

The search for comfortable, practical, fun-to-drive three-rowed vehicles seems to be all the rage for car buyers these days. The previous trend of smaller-is-better has gone by the wayside, and in its place is a desire and need for more interior space and better on-road handling and capability.

Enter the 2019 Mazda CX-9.

As the largest member of the Mazda Zoom-Zoom family, the CX-9 has both a design and performance reputation to live up to. What with the likes of the ever-popular Mazda3 and the super sporty MX-5, it’s only natural that bits of family resemblance should trickle up to the largest family member, too.

The 2019 Mazda CX-9 features the signature Kodo design elements we’ve all come to know and love from the Japanese manufacturer. Modern and sophisticated, the large front grille is one that makes a serious statement on the road and really makes you take notice. And this generation of CX-9 (first introduced as a 2016 model at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show) is shorter than before, however, is riding on a longer wheelbase which makes for a much more pleasing exterior look with shorter overhangs in the front and rear.

Inside, and new for 2019, you’ll find the 2019 Mazda CX-9 equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, standard on all trim levels. And as you make your way up the trim levels of the CX-9, available features include heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, 360-degree all-around view monitor, Nappa leather, and even ventilated front seats. Otherwise it’s standard Mazda fair; clean, crisp and concise, as well as room for up to 7. No captain seats are available in the second row.

Regardless of which trim level you select, your 2019 Mazda CX-9 will come equipped with a Skyactiv-G 2.5T 4-cylinder with Dynamic Pressure Turbo that produces 227 horsepower (or 250 with supreme gas) and 310 b-ft of torque. The only transmission available is a 6-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is available across all four trims, however, if you prefer FWD then only the base GS model offers this set-up.
