2021 Mazda CX-30 vs. 2021 Subaru Crosstrek: Better Value, More Fun

The Mazda CX-30 is the newest addition to the Mazda family. It might look compact in size, but it encompasses all the great technologies Mazda is known for. It is made to be versatile and value-packed, but like every Mazda vehicle, the CX-30 is more stylish than its rivals and is also incredibly fun to drive.

Here, we compare the Mazda CX-30 to the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek.

Much more power and dynamics in the 2021 Mazda CX-30

The Mazda CX-30 offers a wide range of power options. The base model starts with a highly dependable four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine that provides 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. That is more power than the Crosstrek’s base engine that only develops 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque.

The GS model is delivered with a four cylinder, 2.5-litre engine that delivers 186 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. Again, this engine is more powerful than the Crosstrek’s equivalent in the Outdoor trim, also a 2.5-litre, that delivers only 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque.

But the CX-30 has yet another engine option that delivers much more than its rivals in the segment. Available in the GT is the Skyactiv-G 2.5 T Dynamic Pressure Turbo unit that can deliver up to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. This is unprecedented amounts of power that the Crosstrek will never reach.

The Mazda CX-30 is also fitted with a sporty Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode and Drive Selection switch that is designed to provide advanced dynamics. Most Crosstrek models are fitted with a more conventional continuously variable transmission.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 offers better equipment and value

With a starting price of $24,550, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 is more accessible and offers more in its base variant than the Crosstrek’s base variant, which starts at $25,908. With an 8.8”-wide colour touchscreen display in its base GX variant, the CX-30 is more technologically advanced than the Crosstrek, which only has a 6.5”-wide unit in its Convenience trim. Heated front seats with three settings are also standard in the GX, but not in the Crosstrek’s Convenience trim.

The Mazda CX-30 has a lot more to offer than the Subaru Crosstrek in terms of technology and equipment, but it also delivers better value and reliability. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.

Comparing the 2026 Mazda CX-90 MHEV GT and Signature Trims: Is the Upgrade Worth It for Burnaby Families?

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 MHEV lineup spans five trim levels, and for buyers who have already narrowed the search to Mazda's flagship three-row crossover, the decision most commonly comes down to two: the GT and the Signature.
