2021 Mazda3 vs. 2022 Honda Civic: Better Driving Dynamics

The Mazda3 has so much since its introduction, like winning Canada's AJAC Car of the Year for two years in a row. Mazda didn't ease up on development after Mazda3 earned the award in 2020, but it doubled down. Buyers can now access a powerful turbo model that makes driving a compact sedan more exciting.

The Mazda3 became successful because it continually strives to be the best vehicle in its class. To help illustrate, we compare it to the 2022 Honda Civic.

The 2021 Mazda3 brings AWD to the forefront

One of the unique and desirable features of the Mazda3 is the availability of all-wheel drive. This is a feature that is uncommon among compact sedans because of the engineering complexities involved. Mazda engineers accepted the challenge. When seasons change in Canada, this is important. However, the Civic lineup doesn't offer AWD, making some trips more difficult. The Mazda3 makes it easier.

The 2021 Mazda Mazda3 makes the right power accessible

Mazda offers four very well-equipped Mazda3 models and three outstanding powertrains for its class. The GX and GS include a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that outputs 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. The Civic has a similar engine in three out of four sedan models, but it reduces torque to 138 lb-ft. That makes a noticeable difference in traffic. Plus, the Mazda3 uses its extra torque to enhance models with AWD.

The Mazda3 GT upgrades to a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that develops 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, both of which best the Civic sedan's most powerful engine. However, the Mazda3 offers even more.

The Mazda3 offers a turbocharged 2.5L that outputs up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This is unprecedented for the segment, and something the Civic sedan will not achieve.

Mazda always takes interior comfort and refinement to new levels. While the Honda Civic still uses basic elements in an interior that offers limited comfort, the Mazda3 goes above and beyond with upscale textures and materials.

Capability, features, refinement and access are just a few of the reasons the Mazda3 tops the 2022 Honda Civic. There's more to discover with the award-winning Mazda3. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
