2022 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2022 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2022 Honda CR-V: The CX-5 Performs Better

The compact SUV segment is on fire at this moment and everyone wants a piece of the action. Compact SUVs offer more space than sedans for passengers and cargo, but they also give the drivers and their families plenty of safety features to feels safe on the road.

Here, we compare the 2022 Mazda CX-5 with the 2022 Toyota RAV4 and the 2022 Honda CR-V.

More power and performance under the hood of the 2022 Mazda CX-5

Many rivals in the segment tend to sacrifice power and performance. Mazda always keeps this among its priorities. The CX-5 offers two powertrains that provide buyers a choice between solid, everyday power and an option for drivers who want a performance edge.

Drivers may choose between the 2.5L four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The CX-5 also has the turbocharged 2.5L that generates up to 250 horsepower and a road-gripping 320 lb-ft of torque.

The CR-V has one option: a turbo four-cylinder that outputs 179 lb-ft of torque, which makes it less fun to drive. The RAV4’s main engine is a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that only generates 184 lb-ft of torque, which, again, provides less driveability than the CX-5’s engines. Other RAV4 engines are hybrids, which focus on efficiency at the cost of driveability.

But its not only performance that makes the Mazda CX-5 better than its rivals. Mazda improved the CX-5's dynamics for 2022 by redesigning the dampening control structure. The 2022 CX-5 also includes standard i-Activ AWD on all models, which is an essential piece of equipment ton conquer Canadian winters. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 only offer AWD as an option.

Drive Select (Mi-Drive) also enables drivers to select the right driving mode for the right terrain with a touch of a switch.

More style and tech inside the 2022 Mazda CX-5

The 2022 CX-5 also has enhanced the cabin with better frame rigidity, which reduces noise and vibrations inside when compared to the RAV4 and CR-V. The CX-5 also has also many more features and comforts, with a better overall fit and finish on board for an enhanced driving experience.
