2023 Mazda CX-5 or 2023 Mazda CX-30: Which Mazda SUV is right for you?

The 2023 Mazda SUV lineup is composed of multiple models, most of which have received significant improvements in recent years. The Mazda CX-50, another Mazda SUV, joined the lineup last year along with a refreshed Mazda CX-5 compact SUV, and this year the 2023 Mazda CX-30 has received significant upgrades as well. Here, we look at the CX-5 and the CX-30, and how they compare.

Given that both offer standard all-wheel drive right out of the gate and that there is just a roughly $3,000 difference between the two, many potential buyers wonder which of these two Mazda SUVs is the right choice. If you are in that situation, the following article should help.

2023 Mazda CX-5

As mentioned previously, the CX-5 has received significant improvements last year. It has a much more luxurious interior as well as a new and bolder exterior design and it received a range of new connected technologies as well. Moreover, it comes standard with i-ACTIV AWD. It is also a very spacious and versatile SUV you can buy right now in the compact SUV segment. It has 872 L of cargo space, and you can get over 1,600 L of cargo space by lowering the rear seat. Moreover, you get one of the most powerful and efficient engines you can find in a compact SUV.

The 2.5-litre four-cylinder that powers the CX-5 offers 187 hp and 187 pound-feet of torque. It also is available with a more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain that delivers an impressive 227 horsepower, and an impressive 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine is nothing short of the most powerful you can buy in this segment.

Better yet, the new CX-5 offers impressive efficiency with a remarkable average fuel consumption rating of under 10.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

2023 Mazda CX-30

We have talked a lot about the 2023 Mazda CX-30. It is a small SUV with a lot of space and that provides a lot of driving fun. If you were an owner of a Mazda3 in the past, you will find the same driving dynamics and performance in the CX-30 with more versatility. With 572 L of cargo space, this is one of the most spacious SUVs you can find in its class and offers a ton of standard features. It has advanced connected features as well and it is one of the few models in its segment to feature standard AWD.

Is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 155 hp and 15 pound-feet of torque. Despite the performance, it averages under 8 L per 100 km an average fuel consumption.

That said, you can get the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder in the CX-30 and you can also get the turbocharged four-cylinder. With both these engines, the CX-30 delivers better performance than the CX-5 while the entry-level engine delivers better efficiency.

Both these SUVs give you everything you want out of your next SUV, with performance, efficiency and remarkable versatility in their respective segments. The CX-30 is slightly more efficient and more affordable while the CX-5 gives you more features and more space.
