Mazda CX-9 2020 vs Nissan Pathfinder 2020

The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is a seven-passenger SUV that many Canadians own, and more are discovering why it beats the competition each day. Here, we compare the CX-8 to the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder to help you make an informed purchasing decision.

Ground clearance is an important, yet overlooked quality on SUVs. The CX-9 has a clearance of 216 mm, enough to withstand dips and imperfections in unimproved roads and some trails. The Nissan Pathfinder rises to just 178 mm, so drivers have to stay on the pavement, and may have difficulties getting in and out of urban parking spots in the winter.

Torque goes a long way in the 2020 Mazda CX-9

The Mazda CX-9 shows its strengths over the Pathfinder in torque and fuel economy. The CX-9 has a 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 227 hp on regular unleaded gasoline (250 hp on premium) along with 310 lb-ft of torque, peaking at a low 2000 rpm. The Pathfinder’s six-cylinder develops 284 hp, but it can only muster 259 lb-ft of torque, which peaks at a much higher and inefficient 4800 rpm. The CX-9’s advanced engine provides more response and an exciting driving experience.

The CX-9 features a Skyactiv-drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode and drive selection switch. This gives you more control over your driving mood than the Pathfinder with its continuously variable transmission. The CX-9’s city gas mileage of 11.6 L/100km is more efficient than the Pathfinder’s 12.1.

The 2020 Mazda CX-9 has interior and safety advantages

The Mazda CX-9 also has several comfort, entertainment and safety features that you won’t find in the Nissan Pathfinder. Your front seat passenger gains a comfortable advantage with a power adjustable lumbar support. The infotainment system directly supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, expanding entertainment options for everyone in the vehicle. When you want to tap into the local airwaves, HD Radio provides advanced digital sound from area broadcasts.

You will gain several safety features with the CX-9. Windshield-projected colour Active Driving Display (ADD) is the CX-9’s heads-up display. This puts the focus back on the road with valuable information nearby. Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist are standard safety features across all CX-9 models. These technologies add yet another layer of safety and peace of mind to every trip.
