Mazda CX-90 Achieves IIHS' Prestigious 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ Rating

In a significant recognition of its safety standards, the Mazda CX-90, both the Mild Hybrid Inline 6 Turbo (MHEV) and the Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) versions, have received the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. This distinction was announced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 epitomizes Mazda's drive for innovation. Marrying performance with luxury, it boasts advanced electrified powertrains. With top-tier safety and Mazda's unique design, the CX-90 emerges as a standout midsize three-row SUV in Canada.

To merit the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ title, a vehicle must meet several stringent requirements. These include achieving good ratings in tests like the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Further, acceptable or good headlights should be a standard feature across all trims. Additionally, vehicles should possess a front crash prevention system that can obtain advanced or superior ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

According to David Harkey, IIHS President, the outstanding performance exhibited by the CX-90 SUVs is a clear reflection of Mazda's unwavering dedication to safety. Notably, IIHS had amplified its award prerequisites in 2023, and Mazda has commendably risen to this challenge. David Klan, the President and CEO of Mazda Canada Inc., emphasized that safety remains a paramount standard for the company. He acknowledged the relentless efforts of Mazda engineers to enhance safety features, ensuring Mazda remains at the forefront of safety — a pivotal element in customer purchase decisions. Klan also lauded IIHS for continually setting higher benchmarks to foster safer vehicles and roads.

In a related note, other Mazda vehicles have also been recognized for their safety features. The Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, and CX-30, when fitted with the optional front crash prevention technology, were awarded the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK. Similarly, both the CX-5 and CX-50 have clinched the same award, but with their standard equipment.

Operated independently and funded by the insurance sector, the IIHS conducts rigorous safety assessments on vehicles. Those interested in delving deeper into safety ratings and methodology can visit the official IIHS website: https://www.iihs.org/ratings/top-safety-picks.

The gear multiplies: bikes, boats, paddleboards, tent bags, coolers, wetsuits. The passengers have opinions about where to sit and how long the...
