Understanding the Mazda MX-30's Electric Powertrain and Charging Options

The MX-30 is Mazda’s first mass-produced all-electric vehicle and already it serves to demonstrate that the automaker is serious about sustainable mobility. For many, electric vehicles remain unfamiliar especially where powertrains and charging options are concerned.

Here, we aim to provide an objective look at the MX-30's electric powertrain, its range, and the various ways it can be charged.

Electric Powertrain

The MX-30 is fitted with a new electric powertrain technology that delivers an output of 107 kW, equivalent to 144 horsepower. The vehicle also offers a maximum torque of 271 Nm (200 lb-ft). This powertrain is designed to offer a smooth and connected driving experience with plenty of responsiveness.

Battery Size and Estimated Range

The vehicle comes equipped with a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. The estimated range for the MX-30 is set at 161 km, making it well-suited for city driving and shorter commutes. The battery can be charged to 80% within approximately 36 minutes using DC fast charging, under conditions where the state of charge in the meter is from 20% to 80% and the battery temperature is at 25° C.

Charging Options

Home and Public Charging

  1. Level 1 AC (120V and 15Amps): Charging from a state of charge of 20% to 80% will take approximately 13.67 hours. In most cases, an overnight charge will completely top up the battery.

  1. Level 2 AC (240V and 30 Amp): Charging from 20% to 80% will take under 3 hours. A typical home charger will make short work of keeping the battery charged up.

Quick Charging

 3. Level 3 DC Fast Charging: Charging from 20% to 80% will take approximately 36 minutes using Combo 1, with a max output at 50 kWh. This means that road trips will be a breeze.

Mazda has also partnered with ChargePoint to offer convenient charging solutions for MX-30 owners in Canada. You can find charging stations, monitor your charge status, and access other features all through the MyMazda app on your smartphone.

The MX-30 features a contemporary design that aligns with Mazda's Kodo design philosophy. The interior and exterior both emphasize a "Human Modern" concept, combining futuristic design elements with a sense of familiarity. The vehicle also offers enhanced i-Activsense safety features and Mazda Connected Services, which allow users to monitor and control the state of the MX-30 remotely through the MyMazda App.
